The Unique Identification Authority of India (UIDAI) has teamed with Bengaluru-based Sarvam AI, an indigenous full-stack generative AI (GenAI) startup, to improve the user experience of Aadhaar services.
Sarvam will implement the AI solution to execute voice-based interactions for resident-centric use cases under the agreement, which came into effect on March 18. This would help in getting near real-time feedback from Aadhaar number holders for their enrollment and update processes, including information regarding resident overcharging (if any).
The agreement would also provide real-time fraud alerts to Aadhaar number holders if the AI detects anything unusual during authentication requests.
This new AI solution deployment will enable voice interaction and fraud detection in ten languages, including Hindi, English, Telugu, Tamil, Marathi, Gujarati, Kannada, Odia, Punjabi and Malayalam. The language selections will expand further in the future.
The authority has always prioritised Aadhaar number holders and is constantly working to improve technology and user experience. This new MoU represents a step in that direction.
Bhuvnesh Kumar, CEO of UIDAI, said, “UIDAI is a people-centric organisation. GenAI is the next technology evolution in UIDAI’s journey as a technology pioneer, building on our long-standing commitment to innovation for facilitating ease of living.”
Vivek Raghavan, co-founder of Sarvam AI, stated that they are honoured to partner with UIDAI and “this engagement exemplifies the immense potential of AI to drive public good.”
According to the Ministry of Electronics & IT, “No data will leave UIDAI’s secure environment at any stage of operation, ensuring full compliance with data sovereignty and security protocols. The agreement will be initially valid for one year and may be extended by one more year.”
This innovative solution was developed through UIDAI’s volunteer policy, which facilitates industrial collaborations. The GenAI solution was developed and implemented in close collaboration with Sarvam AI volunteers and the UIDAI’s Technology Center in Bengaluru. The solution will be owned by the UIDAI.
