This session aimed to provide a thorough understanding of the POSH Act of 2013, its relevancies, the legal structures involved, as well as the essential frameworks needed to maintain a workplace devoid of harassment.
Key session goals included:
- Understanding the POSH Act, 2013: A thorough examination of the provisions paid particular attention to the legal rights and obligations of the employers and employees of the NRL. We examined the importance of the Act in fostering a culture of dignity and respect and its consequences in the workplace.
- Identifying Unwelcome Behaviours: Participants were equipped with strategies to combat both blatant and covert harassment to enable them to recognize critical problematic behaviours in different contexts and situations.
- Real Life Case Scenarios: Through interactive discussions, we worked through real-life case studies to challenge common myths, focusing on pivotal strategies to avoid harassment and the necessity of proactive action.
- Empathy, Respect, and Bystander Intervention: We emphasized the functions individuals can assume in upholding safety in the workplace, analysing how empathy and respect contribute to workplace culture. We encouraged employees to take action and assume responsibility when they witness harassment through the emphasis placed on bystander intervention.
Dr. Reema Bali, CEO and Partner at Alpha Partners, said:
“I couldn’t help but notice how every single participant contributed to the topic, discussed new ideas, and asked relevant questions. People were eager and willing to resolve difficult topics, a testament to NRL’s persistent dedication to fostering a workplace built on respect and a firm stance on harassment.
I also want to recognize the Training & Development Department for embedding the POSH philosophy into the corporate fabric of NRL through their core values. Their efforts in educating employees strive to effect a cultural change and meet regulatory standards.”
